I wrote this back in 2003 and as I look out my office window today its exactly the same mist and the message is still as valid - please enjoy!
Mist Opportunities
I drove out my driveway into a freezing cold winter morning.
I looked towards the end of the road and was greeted with a powder puff of sultry morning mist covering the gully and all the lovely trees down at the end of the street.
It looked really spooky!
At any moment I expected a Jack-the-Ripper-type character to come wandering down the street, but unless Jack has converted his black overcoat to fluoro overalls, the council workers laying our new footpath reassured me that I hadn’t suddenly been transported to the back laneways of Victorian London.
This whole new vista got me to thinking about how things sometimes are not what they look like. If you’d never seen that piece of road before, you wouldn’t know there were beautiful trees in the gully at the end of the road.
Then I thought how we as humans often hang a mist around ourselves, and sometimes the rest of the world never gets to see the true magnificence under the mist. Like the mist, our ‘cover’ can be beautiful, but it’s just an illusion that can be walked through, revealing the authentic beauty that lies beneath.
So often we ‘mist up’ and cover over bits of ourselves. If only we would let our real self shine, we would often get the recognition we so crave. Sometimes there are surprises when you allow more of yourself to shine through.
Today I got a very excited phone call from one of my clients to report a big win. She had just been offered a highly paid job in a fantastic location where she had been manoeuvring to move to for many months. We had discussed interview tactics and agreed that, because she was doing a sea change, if she pretended to be anyone other than herself, she would be miserable in the new environment. She would be faced with trying to adapt to change and living up to being something she wasn’t. She would also just be moving her current city problems to a new location. It was a big challenge for her to break down the barriers and just ‘be herself’, but the reward came when she was offered the job two hours after the interview. She is now literally on the road to living her dreams.
What a concept. Under that mist, we’ve got what we truly want, plus we already have what gets us what we truly want. But we insist on covering it up.
Like the mist gradually lifting in the morning sunlight, eventually you get to the core of your being and guess what you find there? A totally genuine, wholly beautiful you.
What are your ‘mist opportunities’, what are you covering up?
- Pretending to be less than you really are?
- Pretending to be someone you are not?
- Playing small to suit others ?
- Allowing parts of you to hide when they should be showing?
- Not allowing the world to see your unique gifts and talents?
“Be yourself;
everyone else is
already taken.”

How can you change?
- Start feeling good about the true authentic you.
- Know your truth and don't be afraid to be known for your truth .
- Set up a structure or buddy system that will support you to your dreams.
- Look at the people that surround you. Are they bringing you joy, or bringing you down?
- Start to say the things that you really feel, not the things that you think people want to hear.
Above all, make an agreement with yourself to summon the courage to start the process of shining through the mist.
When you recognise and project ‘the true you’, your life will start changing for the positive.
The quickest way i've seen for people to "find themselves" is when they tell their story at Sore to SOAR - if you would like to attend the July event in Melbourne click here
The New Dream
The very lovely Jenny Orenstein from Natural Balance Kinesiology in Sydney wrote to tell me she had a dream that I was organising a cruise with heaps of awesome speakers and workshops and we were all going. She just wasn't sure where we were leaving from.

Funny thing was I knew exactly where that cruise was taking us because its been in my dream book for years now - so maybe since I've manifested the dream to do retreats perhaps sailing out of Venice, down Santorini and through the Greek Islands and onto Rio might not be as far off as I first thought!
The photo above is of the MSC Opera sliding out of the Grand Canal and guess what! One of my facebook friends just happens to work in a travel agent and can get us 2-4-1- tickets on this cruise liner - this is how dreams come true folks - who wants to come?
I reckon we will be going end of 2011 - start saving your pennies.

You will probably find a big white gqp here and I've left in as an example of imperfect perfection! Somewhere I've messed with the html in the newsletter and I can't find it so use this beautiful white expanse as a space of zen :-)
